How to Optimise and Use LinkedIn for Busy Marketers

By Leeann Bassett

LinkedIn is a game-changer for marketers, but let’s face it: when you’re busy juggling campaigns, deadlines, and client demands, finding time to optimise and use LinkedIn can feel like another task on the never-ending to-do list.

The good news? LinkedIn doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

With a few simple, strategic, and sustainable steps, you can turn it into a powerful tool to grow your professional brand, connect with your audience, and achieve your marketing goals.

Here’s how to make LinkedIn work for you, even on the busiest days:

1. Optimise Your LinkedIn Profile

Your LinkedIn profile is your digital business card; for marketers, it’s where you can showcase your expertise and build credibility.

A strong profile makes a great first impression and tells your audience why you’re worth connecting with.

Here’s what to focus on:

Profile Photo and Headline: Use a clear, professional photo and a headline that highlights what you do and who you help.

About Section: Share your story. What makes you unique? What problems do you solve? Keep it conversational but professional.

Experience: List your key achievements, any projects and responsibilities plus focus on measurable results.

Think of your profile as your marketing portfolio – if someone visited it today, would they understand the value you bring?

If not, it’s time to get it sorted out so you don’t get overlooked or forgotten about.

2. Leverage Your LinkedIn Company Page

If you manage a business or brand, your company page can be a fantastic tool to expand your reach and showcase your organisation’s identity.

Here’s why it’s worth the effort:

SEO Boost: A well-optimised company page can improve your search engine rankings.

Brand Awareness: Sharing updates and employee stories builds trust and helps your audience connect with your brand.

LinkedIn Ads: Running LinkedIn ads? You’ll need a company page to get started.

But I can hear you saying, “I’m busy and I don’t have time to post daily.”

That’s okay!

Start small by sharing updates once a week, focusing on content that highlights your brand’s values, goals, and personality.

It’s better to be consistent and I always encourage my clients to aim for quality over quantity.

3. Create a Simple Content Strategy

The best way to save time on LinkedIn?

Have a plan. A content strategy keeps you focused, consistent, and aligned with your goals.

Here’s how to create one:

Content Mix: Balance professional updates, real-life content, and educational posts. Think behind-the-scenes insights, industry tips, and personal stories.

Use Tools: Tools like Trello and Canva make planning and creating content easier.

Batch Your Content: Set aside time each month to plan and draft posts in advance.

Use The 8 Content Formats LinkedIn Offers: most people only use one or two formats like a single image, or multiple photos. But you can keep your content interesting for both and your audience through using all of the different formats.

Check out this blog post to find out more about the options.

One of my clients recently told me, “We created a posting planner, and it made LinkedIn so much simpler. I now have time to focus on my clients and still show up consistently online.”

4. Engage Without Overcommitting

You don’t need to post every day to get noticed on LinkedIn.

Instead, focus on engaging with others.

Thoughtful comments and shares can have just as much impact as original content.

Having a strategy for commenting can be just as effective for some people as sharing posts.

If you’re just getting started on LinkedIn it’s a good idea to spend a month or two just engaging with other people’s posts while you get a feel for the platform and build your confidence.

Try this:

● Comment on posts from your network, sharing your perspective or adding value.

● Share a great article or post from someone else, with your own thoughts added.

● Use LinkedIn polls to ask questions and spark conversations.

Even five minutes a day of genuine engagement can make a big difference in building relationships and growing your presence.

5. Track Your Success

LinkedIn offers built-in analytics to help you see what’s working.

For marketers, this is a goldmine!

Here’s what to keep an eye on:

Profile Views: Are more people checking out your profile?

Post Engagement: Which posts are driving likes, comments, and shares?

Follower Growth: Is your audience growing steadily?

Use these insights to refine your content and focus on what resonates most with your audience.
